Sometimes doing the creative thing is hard. It’s been a long weekend, I’m tired, and honestly don’t really want to write because I spent all my mental energy today on meeting with people and writing something else that had to be revised and submitted. But today can still be good practice.

Because creativity is (maybe fortunately or unfortunately) not just about when we make the best pieces. A lot of it is just showing up. And I find showing up and being consistent pretty difficult, so even if this isn’t stellar, it is at least done. Today is a day for training. To remind my brain and my willpower that we do the things we say we’re going to do, even if we’re tired. Even if we’re uninspired. Even if we feel like we’re rambling.

So what can I write about right now? Maybe I can tell you about my cozy little living room. Jason was reading in his recliner but has since dozed off, book still in hand. There’s relaxing music playing and we have the Christmas lights on but everything else is comfortably dim. I always feel like the rush up to the end of the year can be a bit of a panic, so it’s nice to just sit here in the relative quiet and low light. I hope you got the chance to relax a bit this weekend, too. And remember we need rest in order to keep moving. Here’s the view that’s helping me rest today.

A noble fir christmas tree with lights and glass ornaments. The tree has a red and white tree skirt and glows softly against the glass window.
